Is there anything that can keep a bunch of youngsters busy for so long at an outdoor venue than a jumping castle? Jumping castles have become commonplace and is typically rented out per day or half day for children’s birthday parties, church festivals or country fairs. It is also very popular for functions where the grownups want to convene while keeping the accompanying children busy.

Jumping castle is the collective term for what is really almost any type of inflatable structure onto which children are meant to clamber and jump. In England, jumping castles are even rented out to adults!

Jumping castles can vary in size and is usually constantly kept firm by a fan motor that is plugged into a nearby mains outlet. They can be very big and have numerous levels, gradients, towers and fantastical structures. Because they are inflatable, they are soft and the only danger of injury is when a child should collide with another child, or fall right off the jumping castle altogether. For these reasons, the number of children should be limited and the surrounding area can be padded.

Jumping castles fold up to a very small size when not inflated and is then easy to transport and store. Small leaks do not matter – in fact, jumping castles operate on this principle. That is why the electric fan motor is constantly keeping the jumping castle firm. It is usually constructed from tough vinyl or nylon that does not puncture easily. However, sharp objects can pierce the skin, so it is normally advisable to jump without shoes, watches or jewellery.

Some inflatable structures are not strictly jumping castles anymore, and are designed in the shape of a boxing ring, or for the playing of specific games. Some are basketball courts and some simulate a miniature version of a gladiator duelling pen.
